Warsaw Mayor Ernie Wiggins has been elected to serve as treasurer for the Indiana Republican Mayors Association.

Wiggins was elected during the Indiana Association of Cities and Towns legislation conference Feb. 7 in Indianapolis.

The Indiana Republican Mayors Association works closely with the Indiana Republican Party on issues important to taxpayers such as taxes, public safety and government reform.

“I think the association is a good organization to be a part of to lobby for Republican initiatives,” Wiggins said.

Wiggins said he hopes the organization will reinvigorate Republican mayors in Indiana to continue to deal with legislative issues.

Wiggin’s responsibilities will include bookkeeping and working with the association’s finances.

LaPorte Mayor Leigh Morris was elected to serve as president, Noblesville Mayor John Ditslear was elected to serve as vice president, and Mishawaka Mayor Jeffery Rea will serve as secretary.

“The Indiana Republican Mayors Association boasts some of Indiana’s best leaders,” said Indiana Republican Party Chairperson Murray Clark in a press release.

“Republican mayors are the embodiment of common sense, Hoosier government.”

In addition to the officers who were elected, four regional directors were appointed: Mayor Dan Klein of Crown Point (Northern); Mayor Bruce Hosier of Portland (North Central); Mayor Jon Craig of Petersburg (Southern); and Mayor Nannette Tunget of Southport (South Central.)

‘The officers, directors and members of the Indiana Republican Mayors Association are a key component of what will be a very successful municipal election cycle for Republicans in 2007,” Clark said.
