02-27-2007Warsaw Housing Authority is partnering with an organization that provides housing development grants to allow tenants more choices in where they wish to live in Kosciusko County.
Pam Kennedy, executive director of Housing Opportunities of Warsaw, informed board members of the voucher program offered for the first time in Kosciusko County during Monday’s board of commissioners meeting.
WHA is partnering with Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority to provide housing vouchers for residents who live in Kosciusko County.
IHCDA offers homeownership, rental housing and community development programs and distributes housing development grants for Indiana.
Kennedy said WHA previously only administered grants that allowed tenants to choose from housing in Warsaw, but the grant will allow them to choose to live in other parts of the county.
The program also will assist families who are under 50 percent of the area median income with rent and utilities beginning in March, Kennedy said.
“The program will allow tenants who meet this requirement to have the option of living in other parts of the county instead of just Warsaw,” Kennedy said.
Kennedy also gave a report on its current voucher program for January. The report included two families were searching for housing, there were six terminations, nine recertifications where annual leases were renewed, 24 interims where residents reported changes in income and 175 total families who used the voucher program.
Kennedy said the voucher program was at its maximum capacity in January because the program can only have 175 families using the program per month.
The board will meet again March 26 at 5:15 p.m. at the Warsaw Housing Authority office.
