Leesburg Man Faces Voyeurism Charges

BY JEN GIBSON, Times-Union Staff Writer

A Leesburg man was arrested Tuesday morning for allegedly hiding a camera in a Chapman Lake family’s bedroom.

William James Cusick, 45, of 5120 N. Village Drive, Leesburg, was arrested and booked into the Kosciusko County Jail around 10:48 a.m. Tuesday on one count of voyeurism, a Class D felony. No bond was set.

According to the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department, Cusick reportedly confessed to installing a pin-hole style video camera in a attic of a residence on Chapman Lake while installing a satellite system Friday.

During the installation, Cusick allegedly left the residence, purchased a video camera and tape recorder from a Warsaw store, and returned to the house, installing the camera in the attic above the master bedroom.

The family told KCSD Detective John Hart they heard a noise in the cold air return vent above the bedroom in the newly-built residence and called the contractor to investigate.

When the contractor looked into the noise Monday night, he discovered the video camera.

Cusick reportedly called the residence and asked to come back Tuesday to “make adjustments” to the satellite. Cusick allegedly planned to retrieve the video tape when he returned to the residence.

When Cusick was arrested, he reportedly admitted to the crime and allowed police to search his property to find evidence to support the confession.

Hart said this appears to be an isolated incident. Information and evidence obtained from Cusick and during the search leads investigators to believe there have been no prior incidents.
