03-05-2007PIERCETON – The Lakeland Art Association has moved its gallery space from Buffalo Street in Warsaw to Pierceton’s First Street.
The new space is smaller, admits LAA president Melodie Koher.
“There’s a big difference in square footage, but the gallery is a good fit with Pierceton’s antiques-and-art theme,” she said.
The gallery, at 120 N. First St., on the east side of Ind. 13, still offers exhibits featuring area artists, the artwork of LAA members, a gift shop and a small library.
“One of the perks of membership is retail space in the gallery,” Koher said.
Upcoming classes will be in the Blue Lion Coffeehouse’s meeting room where the association holds its monthly meetings.
The association turns 50 this year, and the group has operated an art gallery and art center since 1993. A 503(c)(3) organization, the board of directors is comprised of community members.
In addition to Koher, other officers are Darla McCammon, vice president; Ceridwen Ruegner, treasurer; and Susan Karczewski, secretary. At-large members are Anthony Garza, David Taylor, Joanne Kolbe Taylor and Mimi LaRue. Sheryl Ruegner is the gallery director.
Membership is open to artists, art enthusiasts or anyone interested in art. The monthly meetings are open to the public. Membership costs are $20 for adults, $15 for students and $45 for a family.
The March meeting’s program, which begins at 7 p.m., includes a program on collecting Indiana art.
The annual area high school art exhibit begins Wednesday, featuring LAA student scholarship winners. This show runs until March 31.
Lee Rodman and Ceridwen Ruegner ‘s show is April 4-28; the Spring Juried Show is May 2 through June 1. Other exhibits are Tiger Lilies, June 6-30; Al Gore photography, July 4-28; Mike Kelly pastels, Aug 1-25; Terry Armstrong watercolors, Aug. 29 to Sept 22; the 30 and Under Show, Sept. 26 to Oct. 27; the Starving Artist Show, Oct. 31 to Nov. 24; and the Christmas Boutique, Nov. 28 to Dec. 22.
