03-07-2005The Kosciusko County Republican Party selected a new central committee Saturday, with Kosciusko County Sheriff Aaron Rovenstine elected chairman.
The offices of chairman, vice chairman, secretary and treasurer had one candidate each. In addition to Rovenstine, Marsha McSherry was elected vice chairman; Jane Cope, secretary; and Steve Foster, treasurer, by unanimous consent of the precinct committee chairmen.
Cope, former county deputy auditor, is working in Indianapolis for State Auditor Connie Nass. She will hold the office until another candidate is elected.
All political parties are to meet annually on the first Saturday in March to vote on officers and resolutions.
Rovenstine thanked former chairman Mike Gavin for his work, noting that statewide, the county had the highest percentage of votes for George Bush for U.S. president, the third highest votes for Gov. Mitch Daniels, 80 percent of the votes for U.S. Rep. Mark Souder and that all county officeholders are Republican.
“There’s no place for me to go but down,” Rovenstine said.
The sheriff and new chairman asked that he be called at home regarding county business.
The precinct committee chairs also voted unanimously to accept resolutions of the Kosciusko County Republican Central Committee, which outlines rules and regulations governing the officers.
