A Warsaw man was arrested Wednesday evening for allegedly hiding a camera in a fake smoke detector in a Warsaw apartment building.

James John Conley, 47, of Funk Street, Warsaw, was arrested around 7:19 p.m. Wednesday on one count of voyeurism/window peeping, a Class D felony. He posted $10,000 bond and was released Wednesday evening.

According to the Warsaw Police Department, Conley reportedly installed a hidden camera in a fake smoke detector in a restroom at a home on Funk Street. The home was converted to apartments with a shared restroom facility.

On Feb. 26, a woman living in the home called police to report that she found the hidden camera.

Officers went to the residence, found the camera and removed it. They believe the camera was being used to monitor and videotape people using the restroom in the building.

Upon investigation, police learned that the camera lead to the apartment of the building maintenance person who supervised the building.

With a search warrant, items were discovered that confirmed voyeuristic activity and recording activity were done.

When questioned by police, Conley allegedly admitted to recording the activity in the restroom.
