03-10-2006TIPPECANOE – Dorothy Biesemeyer, Tippecanoe Township's current assessor, recently announced she will run for re-election.
With 22 years of experience in her field, Biesemeyer worked as both deputy assessor and chief deputy assessor for the township before winning her present position she’s held for the last four years.
“In this field, I feel that experience and knowledge are the best attributes for our reassessment needs,” she said. “When I first started we had no computers and worked by hand using state manuals.
“I learned the job from the bottom up.”
Biesemeyer said she feels confident she can properly appraise properties and explain the determined values to residents.
Updating the information of the township through assessment trending will be a major goal for Biesemeyer if re-elected.
“I’ll keep running the office like I have under state guidelines,” she said. “But with trending coming up, the township will be between reassessments, which will bring properties up to market value.”
Living in the North Webster area for more than 30 years, she has been involved with three township assessments, each of which she said brought new and exciting challenges.
Biesemeyer said she attends two conferences and four state classes a year to “keep up on changes and to update my knowledge.” Her current level two certification will become mandatory by 2009 for all elected Indiana assessors.
“If elected, I will continue to use my knowledge and experience to better serve the taxpayers of Tippecanoe Township,” Biesemeyer said.
Stephanie Esenwein, of North Webster, and Janice Williams, of Pierceton, also announced they will seek the assessor position. All three are Republican candidates.
