Arrest Made In 2001 Murder

BY KRISTA PRIMROSE. Times-Union Staff Writer

One of Kosciusko County’s two unsolved murders may soon be resolved. The ex-husband of Jill Phillips, Syracuse, was arrested today and charged with her murder.

Jason Ryan, 30, was arrested in a Tennessee town near Nashville for Phillips’ murder. She was 25 at the time of her death. Ryan’s last known home address was Phoenix, Ariz.

Phillips’ body was found June 10, 2001, in Turkey Creek, Syracuse, exactly two months after she was first reported missing.

Koscuisko County Coroner Larry Ladd reported to the Times-Union in 2001 that Phillips died of “homicidal violence,” but declined to release specific details because of an ongoing investigation.

County detective J.D. Ayres traveled to Tennessee, where there is an extradition hearing today. Police declined to give further information regarding this case until extradition is completed.

No one has been arrested in the county’s other unsolved murder. Heather Endicott’s body was found March 14, 2001, in a pond after she was reported missing in early December.
