BY DAVID SLONE, Times-Union Staff Writer

Sandra Hess is the new assistant superintendent for instruction for Warsaw Community School Corp.

At a special Warsaw school board meeting Monday, she was unanimously approved to fill the position left by Dr. David McGuire. McGuire now is the school corporation’s superintendent.

Hess was the North Central Indiana Special Education Cooperative assistant director since 1997. Previously, she was director at Charter Beacon, therapist, kindergarten teacher and a special education teacher.

She received her undergraduate degree from Indiana University in Fort Wayne and her master’s and administrative licenses from Indiana University. She is a member of the Indiana Mental Health Association Board and the Indiana Council for Administrators of Special Education.

As assistant superintendent, Hess said she wants the opportunity to expand her educational vision to bring the highest quality of education to all WCS students.

She and her husband, Tom, have one daughter, Brittany.

Upon recommending Hess to the school board, McGuire said he looks forward to working with her and she brings many skills to the corporation that will be very helpful.

In another administrative matter Monday, the school board decided not to make any decision on the appointment of the Silver Lake Elementary School principal. They will discuss the matter at noon Thursday at the administration building.

The board did approve Louis Padilla as a math teacher at Warsaw Community High School; Barbara Swanson’s resignation as a fifth-grade teacher at Madison Elementary School, effective Aug. 15; and the resignation of Lisa E. Hall as the color guard director at WCHS.
