Cancer Care Gala Saturday

BY M.J. RHODES, Times-Union Lifestyles Editor

The 2006 Kosciusko County Cancer Care Fund Gala will be Saturday at Tippecanoe Lake Country Club.

A variety of items have been donated for the silent and live auctions. Proceeds from the event go toward helping local patients during their fight against cancer.

The KCCCF is comprised of volunteers and gives 100 percent of the money raised each year to cancer patients in the Kosciusko County area. No funds go to administration fees or outside this area.

In 2005, the KCCCF raised more than $133,000 in net proceeds. Sixty-six patients received assistance totaling more than $79,000 for expenses such as rent or mortgage payments, utilities, food, gas and health insurance. The funds are distributed through the K21 Foundation.

Money is raised by corporate sponsors, private donations, a fashion show, golf outing, other fundraising activities and the annual gala.

The fashion show will be Thursday, with clothes modeled from LaGrande Trunk, Valparaiso; Just for Kids, Warsaw; and the Tippecanoe Pro Shop. Other activities will include a $20 balloon pop and hors d’oeuvres. The evening will begin around 6 p.m. and the fashion show will start around 7 p.m. Tickets are available at the door for $35.

Golf teams for men’s, women’s and mixed divisions, all flighted, will participate in the annual golf outing Friday. The outing is open to the first 30 teams for an 8 a.m. or 1 p.m. start time. The entry fee of $500 per team includes golf, cart, favors, hole-in-one contest, breakfast, lunch and hors d’oeuvres for afternoon players. The deadline was Aug. 25, however late registrations will be accepted if space is available. For more information, call Sonia DeGaetano, 574-372-7321.
