02-11-2005DENVER – The No. 5 (3A) Tippecanoe Valley Vikings boys basketball team clinched its sixth straight Three Rivers Conference title in a 48-47 barn-burner over North Miami Thursday night.
Shane Denny and David Lash each had 10 rebounds for head coach Bill Patrick’s Vikings.
Michael Domenico and Lash each had five assists.
Denny led Valley in scoring with six points as the Vikings finished 6 of 10 from beyond the three-point arc. The Vikings finished 19 of 36 from the field as a team.
Domenico was the only other player to score in double digits for Valley with 11 points.
The Vikings have won 15 straight TRC games.
Valley, 14-1 overall and 6-0 in the TRC, hosts Argos Saturday for a 12:30 p.m. tipoff.

The Wawasee Warriors won their second straight game with senior guard Austin Kaiser in the lineup. Kaiser scored 17 while Kory Lantz had a game-high 18 points to lead the Warriors. Lantz returned after missing Saturday’s Wawasee win over Northridge. Ryan Kauchak finished with nine points for the Warriors. Wawasee, 11-5 overall and 4-3 in the TRC, host DeKalb Saturday for a 7:45 p.m.

The Triton Trojans nearly pulled off an upset in a 53-51 loss to Northern States Conference foe Bremen. Aaron Brock led the Lions with 22 while Cory McClarnon led Triton and all scorers with 24 points. Brandon Garey and Troy McIntyre added 10 points each for the Trojans. Triton, 2-14 overall and 1-5 in the NSC, travels to Bethany Christian for a 1:30 p.m. tipoff.

The Wawasee Warriors boys swimming team beat up on the Manchester Squires to the tune of 146-35 Thursday. Chris Szynal won the 100 freestyle for Wawasee with a time of 51.26 and was also a member of the 200 medley relay joining Tyler Wear, Cory Smith and Haven Hoffman to finish with a time of 1:47.84. Manchester’s Gavin McNeeley finished second in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:59.63

After an impressive win over Bluffton, the Warsaw Tiger gymnastics squad fell to Northern Lakes Conference foe Plymouth, 97.25-74.05. Jakayla Snodgrass was the top finisher for Warsaw with a score of 29.8 and third place in the all-around. Sara Hatcher finished fourth with a score of 19.25. Snodgrass finished fourth in the vault, beam and floor. Janelle Bonitati finished fourth in the bars with a score of 6.7 for the Tigers. Warsaw is next in action Tuesday when they travel to Lakeland for a 6:30 p.m. start.

The Wawasee Warriors gymnastics squad fell to a tough Elkhart Central squad 94.50-89.80. Laura Capps finished third in the all-around for the Warriors with a score of 30.30. Sarah Banghart finished second in the vault with a score of 8.50 for Wawasee. The Warriors, 5-6 overall, are at home against Huntington North Tuesday.
