AKRON – The Tippecanoe Valley Baseball Tournament went to the host Vikings Saturday. The Vikings beat Lakeland 5-0 in the first game, then blanked South Bend Riley 6-0 in the championship game.

Bret Hunter picked up the win for Valley in the first game to move his record to 3-0 on the season.

Kyle Brown added offense as he went 2 for 3 with two RBI. Josh Baize scattered five hits and went seven innings in the Vikings’ championship win over Riley. Tyler Fisher hit a three-run home run for the Vikings in the win.

The Vikings have three straight shutout wins. Valley, 6-5 on the season, travels to North Judson today for a 4:45 game.

Warsaw was swept in a doubleheader by Fort Wayne Bishop Luers by the scores of 13-5 and 10-8. Ryan Cox and Kyle Conrad each smacked doubles for Warsaw in game one. The Tigers were led by doubles from Kyler Mylin, Ryan Cox, Jordan Williams and Steve Lemasters in game two. Matt Ransbottom and Mark Sudhoff picked up the losses for Warsaw. The Tigers, 4-7 on the season, are in action today when thy host Elkhart Memorial at 5 p.m.

The Warsaw Tigers committed nine errors in a 9-5 loss to host Concord. Kelcy Martin pitched five innings before Tera Clark came in for two innings of relief. Martin left the game after a line-drive shot hit her knee. Clark and Allison Shepherd each had hits for Warsaw while Star Gonzalez and Brittany Clark each had two doubles for the Tigers. Warsaw, 8-4 overall and 2-3 in the NLC, are in action today at Elkhart Memorial at 5 p.m.

Wawasee was no hit and avoided a perfect game by Westview’s Christi Christner when Tarina Sorensen drew a walk in the seventh inning. The Warriors fell to Westview 5-0. Beth Voirol was handed the loss after pitching six innings, giving up six hits, giving up four earned runs and striking out one. The Warriors, 5-11 overall, are in action today at 4:30 p.m. when they host Concord.

Wawasee tied for third place with Fort Wayne Bishop Luers out of a 13-team field in the John Reed relays at East Noble High School. Rachel Stichter won the 1600 run with a time of 5:12.12. Wawasee’s 400 relay team of Havilah Rensberger, Claire List, Gloria Boesenberg and Jessie Spearman won with a time of :52.28. Ashlee Pollen, Spearman, Rensberger and Stichter won the girls distance relay with a time of 9:23.88. The Warriors are in action Tuesday at Goshen in a three-way meet with Elkhart Memorial. The Tippecanoe Valley Vikings competed in the New Haven Relays Friday. On the boys’ side, Shane Drudge finished second in the high jump with an attempt of 6-3. Eric Cody finished second in the discus with a throw of 145 and third in the shot put with a throw of 48-5. For the girls, Janelle Doody finished fifth in the high jump with an attempt of 4-10. Kristal Gearhart finished fifth in the 100 hurdles with a time of :18.1 and fifth in the 300 hurdles with a time of 51.0. The Vikings are in action Friday at the Oak Hill Relays. Action is set to begin at 5 p.m.

Warsaw rode the first and second-place performances of Chris Hanson and Jake Brodhead to a second-place finish in the Aberdeen Classic at Aberdeen Golf Course. Host Valpo won with a score of 303, while the Tigers shot a 306. Hanson won medalist honors with a 70, while Brodhead finished second with a 73. Jon Clevenger shot an 80 for Warsaw, while Tad Nieter and Grant Slater rounded out the scoring for the Tigers with an 83 and 88, respectively. Warsaw is in action Wednesday when it hosts South Bend Adams and LaVille at 4:30 p.m. at Stonehenge Golf Club.

Wawasee’s Andy Wolf and Darrin Cripe also finished in the top 10 with scores of 75 apiece. Doug Hayden led the way for the Squires with a score of 77. Jared Nifong led the Trojans and won medalist honors with his blazing round of 72. T.J. Carpenter shot a 77 for Triton while Reggie Davis shot an 87. Blake Schori and Kyle Kreft rounded out the scoring for the Trojans with a 93 and 94 respectively. Triton is in action Thursday at Argos in a four-way match with Bremen and Oregon-Davis at 4:30 p.m.

Saturday in Akron

The Three Rivers Conference Individual Girls Tennis Tournament took place at Tippecanoe Valley High School and it was Whitko and Manchester who dominated. Wildcat senior Amanda Busz won the No. 1 singles crown over Northfield’s Lynn Felts 6-4, 6-3. Busz’s teammate Kylee Brown won the No. 2 singles with a 7-6 (5), 6-3 win over Manchester’s Abbey Keffaber. The Squires’ Whitney Woods made it to the finals of the No. 3 singles match before losing to Nikala Raehr of Southwood, 6-1, 6-2. Manchester dominated the doubles action with first-place finishes in both the No.1 and No. 2 matches. Kessie Karg and Aletta Vermuelen won the No. 1 singles while Laura Hand and Anne Ferringer won the No. 2 singles with a 6-4, 6-7 (4), 6-1 win over Whitko’s Danielle Murphy and Jill Wendel. The Squires and Wildcats square off Tuesday in team action when the Wildcats travel to North Manchester at 4:30 p.m.
