NORTH MANCHESTER – After two seasons as Manchester High School’s varsity girls basketball coach, Keri Nichols has resigned.

In a brief phone interview Friday morning, Nichols said: “I’m going back to school to further my education.”

Nichols, an Indiana University graduate, will attend Southwest Missouri State in Springfield, Mo., to get her master’s degree in health and wellness management promotion.

Nichols will also coach varsity girls basketball at Greenwood High School in Missouri.

In Nichols’ two-year tutelage, the Squires posted a 25-18 overall record and fell in the first round of the sectional both years.

Asked how long she had been pondering the thought of leaving, Nichols said: “It’s all come about in the last week.”

Nichols said she didn’t know of any possible replacements as of yet, saying “It happened so quickly no one has put any thought into it.”

Nichols replaced Jody Shewman, who coached the Squires to a 36-10 record over two seasons. Manchester was the semistate runner up in 1997.
