SOUTH WHITLEY –ĘThe Whitko Wildcats dominated singles play over guest Triton Thursday afternoon as the Wildcats came away with a 4-1 win in boys tennis action.

In No. 1 singles action, the Wildcats’ Doru Aldea cruised over the Trojans’ Julian Ravenscroft 6-0, 6-0.

Calvin Sellers and Brett King won at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively, with King losing just one game.

The action in doubles play was a little tighter.

Tyler Berger and Kyle Whiteman beat Whitko’s Chris Shoemaker and Shannon Sleighter 7-5, 6-2 for Triton’s lone win of the match.

Taylor Kessie and Dan Aldea needed three sets to upend Triton’s Erik Shafer and Mitchell Mellott before winning 4-6, 7-6(7-5), 6-3.

Whitko moved to 2-3 on the season.

Thursday in Plymouth

The Warsaw Tiger tennis team traveled to Plymouth to play the Pilgrims. It was a very close match with No. 1 singles, No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles. All went three sets, but Plymouth came out on top by a score of 3-2. The Tigers, 3-2 on the season and 1-1 in the NLC, are back in action Tuesday at home against NLC foe Northridge.

The Manchester Squires had little trouble with Huntington North and cruised to a 4-1 victory. Bryant Wiley and Brandon Wiley grabbed wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 singles positions. Matthew Cable and David Cable grabbed a win for the Squires in the No. 1 doubles position, while David Immel and Andrew Gnagy needed three sets but won for Manchester in the No. 2 doubles spot. Manchester moved to 6-2 on the season.

Tippecanoe Valley cruised in three matches over LaVille as the Lancers failed to field a complete team. Rob Hamman beat Matt Sumpter 6-0, 6-0 for the Vikings’ easiest win of the night. James Makula was pushed in the No. 1 singles match but picked up a win for Valley, 6-4, 6-2 over Alex Schafer. The No. 1 doubles team of Aaron Foster and Trent Newsome picked up the Vikings’ third win of the night. The Vikings, 8-1 on the season, travel to Triton Tuesday.

Tasia Smith paced the Tigers with eight blocks and seven kills. Noelle Scrafton was the team leader in digs with 22. The Tigers moved their record to 8-1 on the season and 1-1 in the NLC. Warsaw is in aciton Saturday when its hosts the Tiger Spiker Invite at 9 a.m.

Erin Doty racked up 25 digs from the libero position for Wawasee, while Kim Miller had 12. Shawn Knafel led the Warriors with 14 kills. Jessie Wolf and Krista Spearman had nine kills each. Megan Krizmanich shot a 41, Elena Duncan finished with a 46 and Jenny Manning carded a 45 for the Tigers. Warsaw, 10-2 on the season and 6-0 in the NLC, travels to Sycamore Golf Club in North Manchester to play host Manchester Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

The Warriors got a big contribution from Kelsey McAdams. McAdams was the match medalist with a 46. Jessica Rondeau shot a 48, while Taylor Goshert carded a 47 for the Warriors. Madi Hike and Kelsey Mark each shot a 59 for Wawasee. The Warriors, 8-6 on the season and 1-5 in the NLC, are in action Saturday at 9 a.m. when they take part in the Culver Academy Invitational.
